Saint Mary of the Presentation Church, Mudgee, NSW

     Saint Mary of the Presentation is a Roman Catholic Church at 13 South Church Street, Mudgee, NWSW.  The early church was built in 1857 by Father Callaghan McCarthy.  His version included a church, sanctuary, and a sacristy.

     The church was rebuilt between 1873–1876.  The architect for the project Edward Gell.  Contractor was Mr. Webb.  The stone mason was Mr. Burns.  The new church incorporated the pre-existing sanctuary and sacristy.  A new body of the church was constructed. Foundation stone was laid 12/7/1873. The church was formerly opened on November 11, 1876. The spire was added in 1911.

     The walls were brick with sandstone foundation.  The building style was Victorian  Ecclestical Gothic.

      This is a restaurant located at 634 N.Yachtsmen Drive, Sannibel.  It is in the Sanibel Marina.  It provides both indoor and outdoor seating seven days for week lunch and dinner.  It is named after Dorothy Stern’s.  It is owned by the Ireland family.

Mudgee Town Hall

Mudgee Town Hall

     The Mudgee Town Hall is located at 64 Market Street Mudgee, NSW, Australia.   This 2 story neoclassical building was built in 1880 under Mayor Clark.  It served as town hall until 1970’s.

     The building was damaged during a fire in 1978.  It was renovated 1978-1979 at a cost of $100,000.The public library was located into the first floor.  It was renovated again in 2012-2013.  The library space was doubled.  Furniture and equipment for a theater were moved into the second floor.

     As of 2018, the building houses a first floor library and a second floor theater/cinema.

Mudgee Railway Station

     Mudgee Railway Station is located in the town of Mudgee in NSW.   It is on the Grwabegar Rail Line.  In 1879, Parliament authorized rail service between Wallerwang and Mudgee.

Mudgee Railway Station

     The station itself was built in 1883-1884.  The architect was John Whitten.  The station is beak fronted with red brick.  There is a sandstone foundation.  The roof is hipped corrugated.  There are elaborately molded chimneys. 

     Internally, there are high ceilings.  The walls are plastered.  There are hardwood floors.

     Passenger service ended in 1985.  It was used by the Freight Corporation, Pacific National Association, and by community groups

     The station was converted to a restaurant in 2005; closed in.2015.  It is currently used by Mandurah Studio Co-operative, the Arts and Crafts Mudgee Gallery and A veteran’s drop in center.

Regent Theater

     This theater is located at 7 Church Street, Mudgee  NSW Australia.  It opened on August 30, 1935.   It had one screen.  Its capacity was 980:seats. The architect was George Newton Kenworthy.

     The building was designated as a historic structure.   It was entered into  the National Trust Register on September 28, 1993.

     It closed in July, 2014.

Mudgee World War II Clock Memorial

World War II Clock Memorial

     Mudgee World War II Clock Memorial is located on a round about at the corner of Church and Market Street. It is a red brick tower with clock faces on all four sides. It commemorates those who served in Word War II.  The tower was dedicated in 1952.

World War II Memorial Clock

     The clock tower memorial appears on many episodes of the Australian series the heart guy

Johann Christopher Friedrich von Schiller Monument

    This statue is located at 2045 N. Lincoln Park West, Chicago.   It was installed in 1886.  The artist was Ernst Bilhauer Ray.

     Schiller was a German playwright and poet.  He was born Marbach in southwest Germany. An original monument was located in Schiller’s birthplace since 1876.  The statue was replicatd for Chicago.

     Beginning in the 1880’s Chicago German community lobbied for a Schiller statute.  In 1885, A corner stone and foundation were laid in Lincoln Park.  An artist from Stuttgart William Pelargus was hired to recast Rau’s original monument. Marble cutter John Gall was hired to create a granite base for the monument.  The monument was unveiled in 1886 during an elaborate ceremony.

     The Laing and and Son Granite Company repaired the Schiller’s Statue in 1959.  They instilled a bronze plaque on its base

     The historic Orlando Railroad Station is located at 1400 Sligh  Boulevard.   It was built in 1926 at a cost of $500,000.  The station’s style is Mission Revival.  It was built for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad.  The architects were A.M. Griffith and H.T.Hadlow.  

     The roof is red tiled.  The external walls are stucco.  There are two domed towers flanking the entrance.

     There was a major renovation in 1990.  In 2015, there was another renovation.  The tile roof and twin towers and stucco surfaces were repaired.   The fixtures, windows and door were replaced.   In 1967, the Atlantic Coast Line and the Seaboard Coast Line merged.   The name on the station was changed to Sea Board Coast Line.

     The station is serviced by Amtrak and A commuter rail company Sun Rail
