The Sydney Harbor Bridge is a through arch bridge that spans the Harbor. Construction on the bridge began July 28, 1932; it concluded on January 19, 1932. The southern terminus of the bridge is at Dawes Point; northern terminus is at the lower North Shore Area. There are six original lanes for traffic. 2 additional lanes were added that were formerly tram tracks. A pedestrian trail is located on the east side of the bridge; bicycle path.is located on the western side. Between the main roadway and the bicycle path are 2 tracks of the North Shore Railway Line. John Bradfield of the New South Wales Department of Public Works with the British firm Dorman Long designed the bridge. This firm fabricated the bridge. The bridge is made of steel. Piers are granite faced concrete. Total bridge length 1,149 M. Width is 48.8 m. The longest span is 503 m
