History of Olympic Hotel Poulsbro, Washington

     The Olympic Hotel was built in 1890 by Captain John Mansen.  It was the first hotel in Poulsbro.  In 1901, the Olympic was purchased by Andrew and Louise Johnson Young.  They remodeled the building and added a large north addition known as the annex. The Hotel had easy access to the steamboat dock.  The building burned down in 1914.

     Well known Mason Peter Fedt rebuilt the Olympic with foot thick cement.  The grand opening was April 1916.  The building operated as a hotel until the 1970’s.

Buck Building 105 Spring Street Friday Harbor, Washington

     The Buck Building is located at 105 Spring Street Friday Harbor, Washington.  It is a two story brick building constructed in 1906.  It is 4,303 square feet.

      The building originally was used for the law offices of Sam R. Buck.  From 1907 to 1980, it was used by the San Juan County Bank.  In 1989, it.was purchased by Sam and Barbara Bank.

Plymouth Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Seattle, 1200 Fifth Avenue Washington

Plymouth Congregational Church

    The Plymouth Congregational Church is currently located at 1200 Fifth Avenue, Seattle, Washington.   It was established in 1869 when founders met above a drug store in Pioneer Square. Congregation moved to its own property when Arthur Denny donated a parcel of land for the church on the corner of Second and Spring Street. Captain William Renton contributed lumbar for the first church.  This was dedicated in 1873.

     After the Great Seattle Fire of June 6, 1889, the church began a rebuilding plan. The church sold its corner lot to purchase 2 lots on on Third and University.    Plymouth outgrew its church on Third and University. and moved to its current local at 6th and University.  The building was dedicated in 1912.  The Church building was damaged in the earth quake of 1965 and was demolished.

Pike Place Starbucks aka as the Original Starbucks

This Starbucks is known as the original store. It is located 1912 Pike Place Seattle. It was established in 1971. It has kept up appearances. It is known as a tourist attraction and crowds.

The problem is that it is not the first store. This was located at 2006 Western Avenue Seattle. It was located at this location for 5 years. After this, it was re-located to its current location in Pikes Place Market.

Historic City Hall Port Townsend Washington

       The Historic City Hall of Port Townsend,Washington is located at the corner and Water and Madison Streets. It was designed by architects Bratwell and Patrick.  Construction began in 1891 and completed in 1892.  It was a three story red brick building with carved sandstone and a decorative sheet metal and multifaceted roof.

     It was designed as a multipurpose civic structure to house administrative offices, city council chambers, court rooms, fire hall and jail.

     In the 1930’s, substantial maintenance of the building was finished under the Civil Works Administration. In 1945, a violent storm damaged the towers of the building and the roof.In the 1940’s, the roof and this floor were removed.

     In 1951, the Jefferson County Historical Museum opened in the old city hall building. More remodeling took place in  the museum. The fire and police departments, police court, jail and administrative offices moved into more modern facilities.   The museum expanded into these vacated spaces.

Old Firehouse

     In 2005, the city of Port Townsend and Jefferson County Society raised money to restore the building in 2005.  In the same year, the city constructed a new adjacent building.

City Hall Annex

    The city hall annex was completed in 2006.  It is 11,700 sq. feet. It is a two story brick building.  Total cost of old building renovation and new building construction was 4.6 million dollars.

Rose Theater Building

     The Rose Theater Building is located at 235 Taylor Street, Port Townsend, Washington.  The Haller Theater was built on a lot owned by Eisenbeis Estate Company in 1907.   In the following year, the Rose Theater (which started as a vaudeville house) moved into the Haller Site.

     Over the following years,the Rose was managed by  stream of multiple owners.  It closed in 1959.

     During the following years, tenants in the Rose Building included a bakery, sporting goods store, and a bargain store.

     In 1992, two businesses partners (Phillip Johnson and Rocky Friedman with Barbara Marseille interior designer and a historic preservation advocate) attempted to renovate the building to its original 20th century atmosphere.

     The Rose is currently home to world famous popcorn and the hub of the yearly Port Townsend film festival.

   The original theater was a 158 seat auditorium.  A second smaller theater was added the Rosebud.  A third event space and theater was set up on the third floor of the building at 237 Taylor.  This was called the Starlight.

     In 2022, Rocky Friedman announced that the  Rose Theater, the Rosebud and the Starlight. were for sale
