Tuttle Residence 

    The Tuttle Residence is a house designed by Paul Rudolph Sarasota School of Architecture) in 1984.  Construction was completed in 1986.  It is located at 652o Swan Creek Road in Rockhill, Maryland.  The house was built for Wylie F.L. Tuttle, an American real estate developer.

     Th house is located on a 240 acre site.  It overlooks Chesapeake Bay.  In addition to the house, there is a swimming pool, a private beach, and  a horse stud farm.

     The residence is 12,500 square feet.  The exterior is brick.  The roof is copper. The house has a custom laminated wooden structural frame with a trapezoidal shape.

     There are two main living spaces connected by a passageway that serves an art gallery.  There are 7 bedrooms and 6.5 baths spread across a 3 level floor plan.  There are two fireplaces and a three car garage.

     The residence is currently for sale.

Port Charlotte Beach Park

    This park was built in 1972 and is located at 4500 Harbor Boulevard, Port Charlotte, Florida.  It was renovated in 2013.  It is a 16 acre beach park.  The construction project was funded by the 1998 Sales Tax and Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program Grant.

     The park includes sheltered waters, boardwalk, fishing pier, boat ramp, canoe and kayak launch, basketball courts,n tennis courts, volleyball court, playground area, shelters with picnic tables, heated swimming pool and recreation center.

Hotel Three Oaks, Alva, Florida

 This hotel was located at the Caloosahatchee River near Pearl and Broadway Streets.    It was a wooden two structure.  There were wrap around porches.  At the time of its opening, there was another hotel named the Wade Inn. The Hotel Three Oaks first opened for business in 1903.  The original owner was Henry A. Lee.  He was also the Alva Bridge tender.

    Across from the Shell Factory on Tamiami Trail in north Fort Myers at one time was a drive in.  Its address is 2521 N. Tamiami Trail.  It opened in 1949 as the Fort Myers Drive In. After a history of closures, it later opened as the Northside Drive In.  This closed after years of operation.

    While the drive In was active and later after it closed, a flea market was operating at the site.  For a while, it operated 5 days a week.    It was in business for over 60 years.

     Now recently, it was announced the the flea market would no longer be operating after May, 2021 at the drive in site.  Apparently the property was recently sold.  It is thought that it would be used for boat and RV storage.

     Fortunately, the flea market operation will.be transferring to the Shell Factory

    

Carroll Alsop  House, Oskalossa, Iowa

    The Carroll Alsop House was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1947 and completed in 1951.  It is located on the east edge of Oskaloosa, Iowa.   It is one of the six Frank Lloyd Wright designed Usonian houses in Iowa.

      Mister Alsop was a clothing merchant.  His home  a red brick  and cypress residence.   It is one of two Frank Lloyd Wright residences in the town of Oskaloosa.  The other was the Lamberson House.  Both of these projects were supervised by an apprentice of Wright’s John deKoven Hill.  Both of these projects were built by Jim DeReus.

     The home has an l.shaped layout with open living spaces.  There are four bedrooms.  There is a nine inch concrete floor. The home was built into the side of a hill to maximize views.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 9, 1988.

     The Tampa Union Station is located at 601 Nebraska Avenue, Tampa, Florida.   The station was built in 1912 to accommodate the passengers of the Atlantic Coast Line, Tampa Northern Line, and the Seaboard Airline railroads. The railroads contributed $250,000 for the construction.

     The architect.was J.F. Leitner.   The style.was Italian Renaissance.   The station was originally managed by the Tampa Union Station Company.  There were originally 8 tracks; now only one is regularly used.  In 1971, Amtrak began to use the station.

     In 1991, a non for profit (Tampa Union Station Preservation and Redevelopment Inc) acquired the 1.9 acre site with the station and the baggage building.  They raised 4 million dollars to renovate the structures using the services of Rowe Architects.   In 1999, this non for profit turned over ownership to the city of Tampa.    Currently, the city of Tampa Real Estate Division manages the site.

     The station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 5, 1974

Riverview Hotel, Fort Myers Florida

  The Riverview Hotel was first located on the edge of Fort Myers.   It started as the Keystone Hotel in 1883. Later it has as known  as the Fort Myers Inn and then the Caloosa House.

     In 1895, the building was moved to the center of Fort Myers.   It was enlarged.  Its name was changed the Riverview.
