Remnant of the Charlotte Harbor And Northern Railway trestle bridge

     The Charlotte Harbor and Northern Railroad timber trestle bridge crossed Gasparilla Sound.  It once connected the main land at Placida to Gasparilla Island. It transported passengers and phosphate. It was built in 1907  It is no longer used for trains.

     Parts of the trestle bridge are currently being repurposed for the Placida Fishing Pier in the north and the Boca Grande  Fishing Pier in the South

Bay Haven School 2901 West TamiAmi Circle Sarasota

The Bay Haven School style is Mediterranean Revival.  It was designed by architect M.L. Eliot.  He was also the builder. The building had an irregular rectangular plan.  It was 2 stories tall. It was constructed of masonry.and hollow tile. The building was set.on.a foundation of concrete.

    It opened in 1926. Construction costs were $77,000.. It was built for 600 students.  The first principal was Mrs.Mason H..Rose.

Hotel Demarcay Sarasota, Fl

This is a historic hotel formerly located at 27 South Palm.Avenue in Sarasota.  The building was 2 stories. It had a rectangular plan. The hotel was designed in a Mission Style.

     The building Contractor was W.R. Carman.  The promoter/developer was Andrew McAnsh from Chicago.  The architect was also W.R. Carman.

    The hotel was built between 1922 and 1923.  It was demolished in the 1980’s.

Demarcay Condominiums

     The Demarcay is a condominium built between 2016 and 2024.  It is an 18 story building. There are 39 units. Costs ranges from 1,166,000 to 6,250,000 dollars.

Mira mar Apartments  44 to 71 S. Palm Avenue Sarasota Florida

     Construction of the Original Mira mar apartments began on October 6, 1922.  It was completed on January 1, 1923.   The apartments were 2 stories. There were 71 apartments in the project. The building was constructed with wood framing. Reinforced concrete was used. Plumbing was steel. Construction used fireproof materials. There were shaped parapets,viva r after ends, and over arched windows.

   The developer was Andrew McAnsh from Chicago  The architect was William Krieg from Chicago. Building style was Mediterranean Revival.  Average rent for an apartment in Florida in 1923 was $60.

     Over the years the Miramar apartments morphed into the Miramar Plaza. It became an important retail area.
