Texas State Capitol

     The current Texas State Capitol is the 4th .It is located at 1100 Congress Avenue Austin, Texas. It is located in the downtown area.

     The first Capitol building was a 2 room wooden building located at the north east corner of 8th and Colorado St.  It served as the national capitol of the Texas Republic and continued as the seat of government upon Texas admission to the Union. The second Capitol was built of limestone in 1853 on the same site as the current Capitol.  It was destroyed in a fire in 1881. A temporary Capitol was built across the street at 11th Street and Congress in 1882. The temporary Capitol later burned down in a fire in 1899.
