Doctor Pierce his home near the corner of Barker and Merchant Streets. The house now standing on that site is believed to have been around the remains of the Pierce home making it one the oldest home sites in New Buffalo
Reuben Pierce and Simeon Pierce were listed in the 1840 federal census of New Buffalo. They were cousins to Weasel Whittier and Wessel’s sister Prudence Abbott who also appeared in the 1840 census. Wessel and Prudence’s mother was Mary “Polly” Pierce.
Doctor Reuben Pierce was the first physician of New Buffalo. Sometime after 1840, Doctor Pierce moved to Terre Coupe, Indiana. He died about 1858. His son R.W. Pierce became a leading physician at Buchanan, MI
