Port Mayaca Lift Bridge
FEC Port Mayaca Florida lift bridge is a pony through plate girder bridge over the Saint Lucie Canal. It was built by Waddell and Harrington of Kansas City, Missouri. It was used by FEC Railroad, South Central Florida Express, and South Central Florida Railroad.
The Saint Lucie Canal is a man made structure built from 1916 to 1924. The canal is 8 feet deep. It was built to divert flood waters from Lake Okeechobee to the south Fork of the Saint Lucie River into the Saint Lucie Estuary, a component of the Indian River Lagoon. There are locks and dams at either end of the canal.
