The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Station is located at 200 Doousman Street Green Bay Wisconsin. It was built in 1899. It was designed by the archectural firm of Frost and Granger. The architectural style  is Italian Renaissance Revival.  The exterior is constructed of red orange brick and features a 3 part design.

     Southern Block

This 2 story  brick segment historically functioned as the main passenger depot.

     Northern Block

This 2 story brick section served  the utilitarian baggage and freight area.

     Historically single story brick.connecting corridor links the passenger and baggage block into.one unified structure.

Key Architectural Elements Companile Clock Tower

     Building defining landmark is a dramatic 5 story Italianate Tower dominating the Southern Block.  It features a large clock face visible  to the surrounding downtown Broadway district

Roofline

     Both primary 2 story blocks are capped  with a classic , low pitched roofs that extend into wide eaves. 

Fenestration Facade breaks up the building brick work with a series of tall prominent windows and grand arched entry ways that welcome passengers arriving from adjacent platform tracks.

     Currently the entire exterior profile and its historic masonry are fully.preserved with the extensive track facing windows serving as a main scenic feature of the restaurant dining room in the building

     

     The Engineer Castle was built in 1937 by the WPA.  It is a literal stone castle. It was designed as a scaled replica of the official insignia of the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers.

     Architecture

    It features prominent limestone battlements, parapet walls and medieval style turrets.  It underwent full historic preservation and restoration that was completed in 2019

Today the climate controlled interior serves as an educational exhibit housing small mammals and reptIles, including fennec foxes and cold blooded species.

     It was listed.on.the National Register of Historic Places in 1991

    Lake side United Methodist Church is a historic congregation founded by early settlers in the late 19th century

Founding and Early Structure

     Established in 1881.  Early settlers laid the groundwork for the church community

      Hand built foundation: pioneers built the original structure by digging a ditch the size of the building,filling it with rocks and laying  planks on top

     Wall Ser up: floor joists were attached directly to these foundation timbers and connected to the wall studs

Key Historical Milestones

     The 1885 Dedication Bible  John Wesley Wilkinson considered the founder of Lakeside, presented a signed Dedication Bible to the Church in 1885

     Debt celebration: The historic Bible.was gifted to celebrate the church building being completely paid off

     Living History:  That exact 1885 Bible still sits on the altar at every Sunday .

Lake side United Methodist Church

This historic school is located at 13689 Prairie St.,Harbert, MI. This building was erected in  1926. It was constructed on land owned by Edmund Glavin. It served as the primary School. It also served as a house of worship. In the early 1950s, it was closed during consolidation of the school district. Style is classic vernacular one room school house. It was wooden balloon frame structure.     The school building is now home to Judith Yacht Gallery.  It specializes in contemporary and folk srt, mid century modern furniture and unique objects of interest.

Post Boy Restaurant outdoor dining

     Post Boy is a chef driven restaurant located in the heart of New Buffalo, Michigan blending global flavors with local history.      Post Boy celebrates  both New Buffalo’s rich history and global culinary inspirations.  It is named after a historic USPS mail ship, the restaurant was inspired by the adventures of Captain Whittaker whose ship, the PostBoy crashed near the current site  in the 1830’s..  Today it features a chef driven menu by James Galbraith,a James Beard Award semi-finalist, offering a creative mix of Great Lakes staples and globally inspired dishes.

Casey’s Window

      The site of Casey’s New Buffalo at 136 N. Whittaker traces its roots back to 1835 with construction of the Goodrich  Hotel, New Buffalo’s  first Inn. Over the decades, the downtown Berrien County corner evolved from a mid 19th century railway and steamship.travel hub into a local ice storage, ice cream parlor and eventually  the mid 1950’s tavern known as Casey’s. Early Settlement and Travel Hub      In 1834,  Shipwreck: Captain Wessel D. Whittaker ran his schooner aground a nearby discovered harbor and claiming the land naming settlement after Buffalo, N.Y. 1835 Goodtich Hotel      The area where Casey’s, New Buffalo now stands was originally the location of the town’s very first Hotel which featured a traditional tavern and a dining room. Evolution of thre property: Ice House.  Part of the current property incorporates a historic vine covered ice house revealing an 1841 cornerstone during remodeling.  It was used  to store large ice blocks cut from the Galien River.

     Redamak’ began in 1946 under George and Gladys Recalls and became a Michigan landmark after the Maroney family purchased it in 1975 expanding it  into the beloved seasonal burger institution it is today.      Origins : The Redamaks  Era (1947 to 1975) Redamak began as a one room tavern founded by George and Gladys Redamak in.1946. The couple built a reputation for a warm personal service —often greating customers by name and for a bustling , first come  first serve atmosphere that the regulars embraced.

     The early  building  was small, crowded and equipped with aging tools but the Redamaks focus on family atmosphere, value service, and quality made the.restaurant a destination long before I 94 existed.      Travelers along the Red Arrow Highway routinely stopped for a burger, beer and the now famous screen door entrance

     George passed.away in the early 1970’s and Gladys continued running the restaurant until she decided to sell carefully choosing buyers who would preserve its character.      Maroney family takes over  1975–present On July 15,1975 Jim and Angie Maroney purchased Redamakars from.Gladys.  Their sons James and Charles soon.joined the operation beginning a new era of growth and modernization.      The Moroneys maintained the restaurant core values–quality, atmosphere, service and traditions while gradually expanding the building and improving operations.

Redamaks Signage

     Major expansions and renovations 1978–9 Kitchen expansion.  First  significant  renovation involved tripling the kitchen in size with new state of art equipment for  1978 standards.  This work took approximately four months and faced delays due to weather and equipment deliveries 1984 Back dining room addition.  To accommodate more guests , a back dining room was added under consultant Gordon Kissman. Initial furniture delays were mitigated  by using wood peek picnic tables temporarily 1989–1990 Remodel Phase 3 included functional  upgrades  such as improved  seating, kitchen flow, server stations,light and floor coverings.  Despite  minor weather related delays, the remodeling delays, the remodeled space opened on March 1, 1990, receiving strong  positive reviews.  1995-6 installation of air conditioning  and paving of the parking lot 1998 Enclosure of outdoor beer garden to create a screened  in porch. 2002-3 conversion of the porch into a 3 season room with windows and heating 2004 Parking and Four Seasons Room update. The parking lot was striped, additional parking was added, and the Four Season room was redecorated to improve ambience and accommodate larger parties.
