Wards Island Footbridge

    This bridge is a pedestrian one.  It is also known as the 103rd Avenue foot bridge.  It crosses the Harlem River between Manhattan and Wards Island.

     It is a vertical lift bridge with 12 spans. It has steel towers and girders.  It was designed by Othmar Hermann Amman.  It was built by the army.corps of enginers.

     It opened in 1951. Costs were 2.1 million dollars.  Total.length is 1247 feet.
