First United Methodist Church

     This is located at 212 3rd Street in Saint Petersburg, Fl.  It faces Williams Park.  It was built in 1925. The architects were James Baldwin and Charles Whitaker.  Building is Gothic Revival.

     The building is red brick with cast ornamentation on all facades. Roof is a steeply pitched pseudomansard.  There is 144 feet belltower.  It originally housed a 10 bell Carolion which was increased to 15.

     All windows in the sanctuary are leaded glass manufactured by George Handy Payne Studios of Patterson New Jersey.  The sanctuary is typical gothic revival with pews laid out with seating facing the altar.

     The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1990

Tampa Zoo

     The Tampa Zoo at Lowry Park is located at 1101 W. Sligh Avenue Tampa.  It is also known as Lowry Park Zoo or Lowry Park Zoological Gardens.   Its origin was a small animal exhibit at the University of Tampa in the 1930’s.

  In the 1950’s,  it moved to Lowry Park.  There were rides and other entertainment.  In 1987 to 1988, it was completely rebuilt and redesigned.  It was rebranded to the Tampa Zoo at Lowry Park in 2018

     It is a non for profit zoo operated by Lowry Park Zoological Society.  This is also a non for profit.  The zoo is currently on a 63 acre site

Museum of History Saint Petersburg

     This is located at 335 2nd.Avenue Saint Petersburg, Fl. It is dedicated to local history.

     Its site was donated by the city of Saint Petersburg.  It was founded by Mary.Wheeler Eaton  in 1920.  It is the.oldest museum in Pinellas County.

    Notable items in its collection include pajamas owned by William Howard Taft,full sized replica of Benoist XIV Aircraft, and eye glasses owned by George Armstrong Custer.

     

Weedon Island Preserve

Weedon Island Preserve Entrance

     WeedIt is predominately on Island Nature Preserve is a 3,190 acre nature preserve along the western shore Tampa Bay.  Its address is 1800 Weed on Drive N.E. Saint Petersburg, Fl. It is  predominantly estuarine preserve composed of upland and aquatic ecosystems such as mangrove forests,pine/scrubby flat woods and maritime hammocks.

     The preserve is also an archeological area with several shell mounds identified on the property.  It was added to the US National Register of Historic Places on June 13, 1972.

     There are 4.7 miles of nature trails.  The boardwalk leads to a 45 foot tall over sat ion tower. There is a 4 mile self.guided canoeing kayaking loop.

Tropicana Field

Tropicana Field 

     Tropicana Field is located at 1 Tropicana Dr, Saint Petersburg, Fl.  Construction began on 11/22/1986. Field opened on March 3, 1990.  Construction costs were 130 million dollars.  Field was renovated in 2014.

     Structural engineers were Marlin and Marlin, Geiger Engineers. General construct ion was Huber, Hun, Nichols.
