McCrory Building


     The McCrory Building is located at 433 Central Avenue, Saint Petersburg, Fl.  It was built in 1904.  Architect is unknown.  Building style is unknown.  It is a four story building.  Signs was installed in 1929.  The building was sold to Tricera  Capital for 6 million dollars in April, 1919.  Now houses multiple retail stores.

     Bob’s Train Restaurant is located at 2211 Fruitville Road Sarasota.  It is located in an abandoned parking lot. It consists of multiple railroad cars acquired by owner Bob Horne. One of the renovated cars functions as a dining room. Two cars are literally a museum with multiple pictures on the walls.

     The oldest car dates to 1916.  It was the private car.of John and Mabel Ringling.

     The restaurant  owner is Bob Horne.  He has hadv many careers throughout the years.  Early in his life, he was a ringmaster and circus performer for multiple circuses.  During our visit  he provided us with a history of his life and his acquisition of multiple railroad cars.  An interesting note is the restaurant waitress was a member of the Wallenda circus family

     The building was constructed in 1925.  It was built by Franklin Mason.  The architect was Harry F. Cunningham.  It is a steel frame masonry clad building.  The building style.was beaux artes.  It is 27,000 square feet.  There were 76 guest rooms.  It was listed in.the National Register of Historic Places.

     It now operates as the Williams Park Hotel.  It underwent an.extensive.renovation in 2010.

Princess Martha Hotel formerly Hotel Mason 411 First Avenue North Saint Petersburg, Florida

The Hotel Mason was located at 411 First Avenue North, Saint Petersburg, Florida.  It was owned by Franklin Mason. It opened in 1924. It was a red brick neoclassical building. It was multiple stories.  Construction costs were one and one half million dollars.  Unfortunately, it went bankrupt in 1926.

    The Gulf Hotel Company  and william Muir took over management of hotel.  The name was changed to the Princess Martha Hotel.  It operated for the next five decades.  During World War II, the hotel was a residence for recruit soldiers.   From 1976 to 1978, the First Baptist operated the hotel.  In 1989, the hotel underwent a 4 million dollar renovation.

     In 1978, the building underwent conversion to a senior community.

Green Bench Brewing Company

     This brewery was founded in 2013.  It is located at 1133 Baum Avenue. Its name refers to the green benches that dotted the sidewalks of downtown Saint Petersburg Fl.

     Its owners are Chris Johnson and Steve Duffy.  The brewery is known for its IPAs.  They have experimented with wood fermentation and various yeasts and bacterias
