Ghajn Tuffieha Tower Malta

     This is a small watch tower in Ghajn Tuffieha.  It was completed in 1637.  It is located on the cliffs overlying the Ghajn Tuffieha Bay..  The architect was Vicenzo Maculoni.

     The plan of the building is a square design with 2 floors topped by a flat roof with a parapet.  Each floor.has a single room. The structure was used as a coastal watch tower.

     Building was constructed of limestone. It was built by the order of Saint John.  It was built on the former site of a medieval watch post.

    It was substantially rehabbed in the early 2000’s.  It was opened to the public in 2013.

  This structure appears in the Hallmark Movie Love and Honey.

     The area adjacent to the cemetery was known as gum springs due to the many springs and adjacent gum trees.

Grave of Joseph Parks (the first elected of the Shawnee Tribe). Died 1853

     The treaty of 1854 between the Shawnee Indians and the U.S. government set aside 5 acres for the cemetery and a log church.

Charles Silver heels born 1814; died 1864. Died Leavenworth Kansas Buried Shawnee, Kamsas

     In 1854 the Shawnee Council and tribal members met to discus met to discus a proposed treaty permitting the opening of the Kansas territory for white settlement.

     Only Shawnee and their kin are buried in the cemetery, many in unmarked graves.

     The Aztek Theater was designed by the Boller Brothers, from Kansas City.  It was built by Marion Summer’s (the second mayor of Shawnee.It opened on Labor Day in 1927 as the Mission Theater.  It had 5.00 seats.

     In 1942, it reopened under the Dickinson name. Its name was changed to the Aztec Theater.   It was purchased by the Phllum Family. Its name was changed to the Fine Arts Theatre.  The theater was closed for renovation on July 27, 1975.   It was closed and it was used for bank storage. 

     Renovation began again in January 2017.

 In 209, the Aztec Shawnee Th reopened as a live entertaInment. The theater screened the Movie Dracula on October 27, 2021.  The current owners now regular performance s of Classic movies.

Prince of Wales Tower Halifax, Nova Scotia

     This structure is the oldest Martello tower in North America. (Martello Tower is a distinct Masonry tower used in the defense of British North America).

     This tower is located in Point Pleasant Park Halifax.  It was built in 1796 by Captain Straton. It was used as a redoubt and later a powder magazine.

     The tower is 26 feet high and 72 feet in diameter.  The original construction allowed for six mounted guns on the roof and 4 on the second story
