Saint Simon Lighthouse

     The Saint Simons Lighthouse was built between 1868 and 1872. It replaced an earlier station destroyed during the Civil War. The architect was Orlando Poe.  The contractor was Charles Cluskey.

     The lighthouse is 104 feet tall.  It is 23 feet in diameter at the base.  It is 10 feet in diameter at the base of the gaLlery. The structure was was constructed of savannah grey brick.  It was renovated from 1984 to 1991

Beaufort Arsenal, Beaufort, South Carolina

The Beaufort Arsenal is located at 713 Craven St. Beaufort, South Carolina. It was designed by Colonel Thomas Tailbird. It was built in 1798 to house the Beaufort Voluntary Artillery. It served as a place for meetings, social gatherings, and parties. It also served for munition storage. Parts of arsenal were rebuilt on the 1850’s. It currently serves at the home of the Beaufort History Museum and a visitor center

Colonial Cemetery Savannah

Colonial Park Cemetery also known Colonial Cemetery was established in 1750. It is located in downtown Savannah. It was expanded multiple times over the years. It was Savannah primary public cemetery through 103 active years. It was originally built as a burial ground for Christ Church. Parish. It was closed to all burials in 1853.

Talmadge Memorial Bridge over the Savannah River

Talmage Bridge over Savannah River

     This bridge crosses the Savannah River from Savannah, Georgia to Hutchinson Island. The bridge was named for Eugene Talmadge, former governor of Georgia.

     The bridge was designed by the Parsons Brickerhoff Quade and Douglas Engineering Firm. Cost was 71 million dollars.

     The bridge length is 1.9 miles. It carries 4 lanes of traffic on Highway 17.  It is 185 feet in height.  The bridge  has a concrete deck supported by steel cables

Lucas Theater Savannah

The Lucas Theater is located at 32 Abercorn Savannah,Georgia. It was built by Arthur Lucas. It was designed by Claude K. Howell. Style was Spanish Baroque. It opened on December 26,1921. At opening capacity was 1700. It had marble floors and a large dome. It had a wrought iron marque

Cathedral Basilica of Saint John theBaptist

     The Cathidral Basilica of Saint John the Baptist is located at 222 E. Harris Street, Savannah, Georgia.  Construction on the structure began in 1873.  It was nearly completely destroyed  in 1898.  It was rebuilt in 1899.

     The building is completely built of brick.  There are 81 stained glass windows.  There are 16 gargoyles.  It is 214 feet tall.

     It was dedicated in in 1876.  The architect was Ephraim Francis Baldwin.  The building style is French Gothic.

Harbor Town Lighthouse and Museum

     This lighthouse is located at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina at the Harbor Town Marina. It was privately built.

     Construction was started in 1969 by Charles Fraser.  It was completed in 1870. It is an octagonal column.  The is red observation or gallery below the latern.

     The column is stucco on metal lathe over plywood.  The height is 93 feet.  There are alternating red and white bands.

     There is a white light that flashes every 25 second.

     The light house  also features a museum.
