Richard Wood Memorial Bridge

     Richard  Wood Memorial Bridge (originally Lady’s Island Bridge) is a movable swing bridge that connects downtown Beaufort with Lady’s Island and outer sea Islands.  In 1971 it was renamed in memory of Richard Woods,aSouth Carolina highway patrolman killed in the line of duty.

     This bridge opened in 1959, replacing an earlier swing bridge built in 1927.  It carries 4 lanes of US21.  It crosses the Beaufort River (Intracoastal Waterway.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 1/6/2023.

U. S.Post Office Customs Office

     This building is located on the corner of 4th and Centre Streets in Fernardina Beach, Fl.  The building served as a post office, Court House and Custom House.

     The three story masonry building style is in the Renaissance Revival Style.  It was built in 1912.  The supervising architect

Lesense House Fernandina

     The Lesense House is located at 415 Centre Street Fernardina Beach, Fl.  It was built for Dr. John Lesense. The architects were George Barber, Robert Schuyler.  It was built around 1860-1865. Building style is Greek Revival.  It is 2 stories. Construction style is post and beam with mortise and tenon joints.  No nails were used.  The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1973

Ritz Theater Building

     The Grand Opera House was built at 1530 Newcastle St. Brunswick, Ga in 1899 as the main opera house.  It replaced L’Arioso Opera.

     The building also housed several retail outlets on the first floor.  On the second and third floor were the offices of the Brunswick and Brunswick Railroad.

      There  were renovations in the 1920’s and 1930’s.  A marquee was installed.  The building was renamed the Ritz Theater.  It was converted to a movie theater.

     In 1980, the city of Brunswick bought the building.  Since 1989, it has been managed by Golden Isles Arts and Humanities.

     Currently, the Ritz features live performances, movie screening and other art exhibits.
