Charleston Federal Building AKA L. Mendel Rivers Federal Building

     It was commissioned by John Kennedy in the early 1960’s.  The building was completed in 1964. It one of Charleston’s few example of a mid century modern building. It was 7 stories high. It has a marble and brick facade.  The architect  was John Califf. Federal Agencies occupied building until 1999 after  there was extensive damage by Hurricane Floyd

     In 1/2008, it was purchased by a private developer.  It was converted into the Dewberry Hotel.

     In 1972, the building was renamed by Congress the L. Mendel Rivers Federal Building.

Telfair Academy Savanah, GA

Telfair Academy, Savanah, Ga

     The Telfair Academy is located at 121 Barnard Street, Savannah, Georgia. It was a 2 story masonry structure built of brick finished in stucco.   The entrance was a 4 column  projecting portico.  It was designed by William Jay. It was built in 1818 for Alexander Telfair. The style is English Regancy.

     This was originally a family townhouse belonging to.the Telfair family. It became a museum in 1886.

     In 1875, the house furnishing and collections were bequeathed to the Georgia Historical Society.

     The house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in may 11, 1970.
