The Thompson House

    This house is located at 915 N. Dearborn Street Chicago.  It was built in 1888 for attorney Johnn Howland Thompson. The architects were Cobb and Frost.  Style is Richardson Romanesque

     This is four stories.  It measures 13500 square feet.  There are 5 bedrooms and 4.2 baths.  It features hand carved marble fireplaces,Honduran Mahogany Millwork.  The exterior is Lake Superior  Sandstone.

Ira Couch Mauseleum, Lincoln Park , Chicago

    In the south end of Lincoln Park near the Chicago History Museum,  there is a solitary mausoleum with the name Couch on it.   A question is raised why is there a mausoleum in this location.    The answer is that in 1843, a city cemetery opened in this area. Burials ceased here in 1866.  The reason for the closure is sanitation with cadavers and caskets ending up into adjacent Lake Michigan.

     Ira Couch was a Chicago businessman.  He was a propietor of the Hotel Tremont.  Mr Couch died in 1857 while on a vacation in Cuba.  His body was returned to Chicago.  His brother arranged for a mausoleum to be built for Ira.  The structure was quite elaborate weighing 50 tons.It was built with limestone Lockport, N.Y.  Why did this remain in this location?  The answer is not readily apparent.  It may have been that moving a 50 ton structure would be expensive.

     Who is interred in the mauseleum?  It is supposed to be Ira Couch.   Were other members of the family present here.? The answer is uncleat.

Oscar Mayer House

     This house is located at 1030 Forest Avenue, Evanston, Il.  It was built in 1901.  Style is historic chateausque.   The architect was Hall and Sturm.  The exterior is red brick and stone.  There are six bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, there are formal rooms with fireplaces, music room, game room, library and ballroom.

     The house was first owned by Mr. and Mrs. Stevens. In 1927, it was purchased by Oscar Myer Sr in 1927. The family lived in this home from 1927 to 1965.

    It was purchased in 2016. It was extensively.remodeled after being vacant for several years.

Grant House

     This house is located in Galena, Illinois Its address is at 511 Bouthillier Street .  House was built from 1859–1860.  Architect was William Dennison.  Style is Italianate.

Grand Sitting Room

     The house was originally built for Alexander J. Jackson.  It was then bought by a group of Republicans and  presented to Ulysses Grant.  He lived there during the presidential campaign of 1868 and periods during presidency and his retirement.

Kitchen

     House features well defined rectangular shape and a roof with a low pitch,and balustrated balcolny.

    It was listed on the National.Register of Historic Places on 10/15/1966

George Pullman Mansion 1729 S. Prairie Avenue Chicago, Il.

George Pullman Mansion

     George Pullman and his wife were married in 1867. In the next year, they purchased a 100 foot lot at the corner of Prairie Avenue and 18th Street in Chicago. They hired  archictet Henry Joffray to build a house on this lot.  Construction began in 1872 and completed in 1877.

     The house was 70 x 108 feet.  It was 7,000 square feet.  Address was 1729 Prairie Avenue.

     The exterior was Connecticut Brownstone. Style was Italianate.  Amenities were 200 seat theater,billiard room, bowling alley and a pipe organ.  The mansion was demolished 1927

Hunter Woods Finch House

The Hunter Woods Finch House

     This is a 2 story brick house.  It is located at 5235 University Chicago.    Style is Collegiate Gothic. It was built in 1904.  The architect was James Gamble Rogers. It was built for Hunter Woods Finch.  He headed Hunter W. Finch and Company Coal Company.

     There are 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.  It is 7000 square feet

University  Club, Manhattan, New York

University Club Manhattan

     University Club is a private social club located at 1 West 54th Street and 5th Avenue in midtown Manhattan.  The club started in 1865 as an organization for the promotion of literature and art. It is not affiliated with any other University Club or College Alumnus Club.

     The current club house is a 9 story granite faced Renaissance Revival Style Building.  The architect was Charles Follen McKim. It was built in 1899.

     There are.three main.floors.  There are library rooms on the fourth floor. There is a dining area on the 7th floor.  There are baths and swimming pool in the basement.  On.the 10th floor, there are 5 singles squash courts.  The is one hardball squash court.

     The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places onApril 16. 1990.

Frederick Pabst House, 2000 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

In 1890, Captain Frederick Past commissioned Milwaukee architect George bowman Ferry to design a mansion for him.  It was to be in the file ish Renaissance Style.

   A building permit was obtained on June 27, 1890.  Construction took 2 years.   The house is three stories with a pressed brick exterior.

      The Pabst family lived in the house from 1892 to 1908.

     It was purchased by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 1908.  It was used by them for 67 years. It was purchased by Wisconsin Heritage, Inc in 1978
